Markus Kukuk is professor of computer science at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts with more than 20 years of experience in medical imaging and medical engineering. He held (senior) research scientist positions at Siemens Corporate Research, Princeton (USA), Fujifilm Medical Systems, San Jose (USA) and Siemens Medical Solutions, Forchheim (Germany). His teaching and research focusses on improving medical care by applying and improving methods from image and signal processing, computer vision and machine learning. His former doctoral student was awarded the renowned „Johann-Peter-Süßmilch-Medaille 2021 der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie (GMDS, 2.500 Euro)“ for his Ph.D. work on ECG delineation.
